Today, 4 November 2026, the Legacy Chest goes live, bringing together more than 30 stories and over 220 minutes of lived experience from long-term and lifetime survivors of HIV.
Launched as part of the Long-Term Survivors of HIV – Honouring the Past, Shaping the Future project, the Legacy Chest is an online archive that brings to the forefront the voices, experiences and knowledge of people who have lived through the HIV/AIDS pandemic and built the HIV movement.
The stories document decades of activism and advocacy, experiences in healthcare, and the challenges of confronting stigma and discrimination. They also celebrate resilience, community building and the many ways people have built meaningful lives with HIV.
More than personal testimonies, these stories are a valuable resource for advocates, healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers and future generations. They help preserve the HIV community’s collective memory and ensure that the knowledge of long-term and lifetime survivors continues to inform the future of the HIV response.
Explore the Legacy Chest and discover the stories behind decades of living with HIV.
