Study quantifies atherosclerosis risks for men with HIV over age 40

In well-treated people over age 40 living with HIV, HIV status appears to be independently associated with a twofold greater risk for any coronary atherosclerosis and a threefold greater risk for obstructive atherosclerosis, according to research conducted among a primarily male cohort in Denmark. The difference appeared to be especially pronounced among people in a low-to-moderate cardiovascular risk category.
