Among individuals with HIV at low to moderate risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, pitavastatin use is associated with a reduced incidence of hypertension and lower subsequent cardiovascular risk, according to study findings published in The Lancet HIV.
Researchers performed a prespecified secondary analysis of REPRIEVE (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02344290), a global randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating pitavastatin for primary cardiovascular prevention in individuals with HIV. They assessed whether pitavastatin lowered the risk for incident hypertension and whether new-onset hypertension was associated with major adverse cardiovascular events. The analysis included adults aged 40 to 75 years receiving stable antiretroviral therapy who had low to moderate atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk.
