EATG Women Converse | The silent heroine: Olimbi’s extraordinary HIV activism in Albania –Webinar

Back to the "Events" list

What is ‘EATG Women Converse’?

Leading to 8th March 2025, International Women’s Day, we are presenting a series of webinars that will see EATG women conversing about the issues that are most relevant to them: living with HIV, the experience of the menopause, adherence to treatment, peer support, leadership, using drugs and recovery, stigma and discrimination amongst many other topics.

The International Women’s Day 2025 campaign theme is ‘Accelerate Action’. Collectively, at EATG we can contribute to accelerate action for women in the WHO Europe Region and beyond. This series of webinars is one of the ways in which we call for actions that can benefit the health and wellbeing of women living with HIV.

EATG women converse with a legendary HIV activist from Albania. Olimbi managed to fight through hardship and change the face of the HIV/AIDS response in her country. When access to HIV treatment and care for her and her children weren’t available, she took things into her hands. She stood stronger by love, not by choice.

Ahead of the International Women’s Day, we are thrilled to talk with Olimbi Hoxhaj, an extraordinary person and a silent heroine in daily life. Olimbi shares her journey in a discussion with Nicoletta Policek. A journey of courage, relentless fight, learning and accepting, mobilising friends and networks, and above all, effecting change driven by love.

In light of this day, we want to spotlight and celebrate a prime example of women leadership. We aim to ignite inspiration from the story of a woman pioneering against adversities and a hostile societal environment. We further want to showcase the power of cross-border support networks, like EATG, in movement building on national and regional levels.

During the webinar, we will present the trailer of the in-progress documentary Olimbi: Mother Courage, followed by a live intervention by the director Karlo Mlinar.

Finally, we will invite participants to a Q&A.
