In 2019, the US Department of Health and Human Services announced a plan to end the HIV epidemic in the United States by the year 2030. The Ending the HIV Epidemic in the US initiative was created with the goal of reducing new HIV infections in the United States by 75% by 2025 and 90% by 2030. Collaboration among federal, state, and local health departments, and health care providers is needed to reach this target. Specialty pharmacists also have a role to play to help ensure that goal is reached, starting with understanding HIV guidelines and how specialty pharmacists can facilitate and optimize the care for patients living with HIV.
