Two out of every three young adults with perinatally acquired HIV in a London, England, cohort had a metabolic abnormality, and 16% had metabolic syndrome — although most of the cohort are only in their 20s or 30s, according to research presented at the 26th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2026). As study presenter Maeve Barlow, M.B.B.S., tells TheBodyPro, the findings suggest that monitoring of glucose tolerance and lipids may need to start earlier in people who are born with HIV.
