HIV activist Giulio Maria Corbelli has died

It is with immense sadness we are sharing the news that Giulio Maria Corbelli, HIV activist and member of EATG, has died.

This is a very sad day for the EATG family and Giulio’s loved ones. We are mourning the passing of a great friend and colleague, a tireless and dedicated HIV and LGBTI activist. His contribution in EATG’s work has been pivotal. His passion, knowledge, strength and optimism will remain inspirational to all of us. We will always remember Giulio for his generous smile, his persistence, and his involvement both nationally and internationally.

We express our deepest condolences and send our thoughts to his friends and family at this difficult time.

We already miss you Giulio.

 


Giulio Maria Corbelli was diagnosed with HIV in 1997. He was a member of the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG). He was the chair of the European Community Advisory Board (ECAB) for two terms (2014-2018). Giulio had represented EATG at the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) and on the Scientific Committee of the HIV Glasgow conference. He led on EATG’s cure portfolio.

He worked at the Community Engagement Unit at the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. He was a member of the Community Advisory Group for the INSIGHT network. In Italy, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Plus, the first network of LGBT people living with HIV running the first Italian Checkpoint in Bologna and the Checkpoint in Rome, and member of the panel for the Antiretroviral Guidelines at the Italian Ministry of Health.
