EATG for Pride Month 2025: Trans* Rights and Lived Experience

Back to the "News" list

This year, EATG is marking Pride Month (1-30 June) with a dedicated focus on trans*, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming communities. We are witnessing an alarming global trend: the erosion of the rights and well-being of these communities. From the rollback of protections in the United States to a wave of regressive policies across Europe, as shown in the latest Trans Rights Map, the need to speak out and stand in solidarity has never been more urgent.

Trans* and gender-nonconforming people continue to face a disproportionate burden of HIV/AIDS across the WHO European Region and globally, driven by stigma, discrimination, and barriers to inclusive healthcare. According to the UNAIDS 2024 Global AIDS Update, transgender women globally are 20 times more likely to acquire HIV than the general population, a significant increase from the 11 times higher risk reported in 2010. These stark disparities underline the urgent need for targeted, community-led responses to ensure equitable access to prevention, testing, treatment, and care.

In this spirit, we will be sharing stories focusing on trans*, non-binary, and gender-diverse lived experience. We believe in platforming those directly impacted, and stories that can educate, inspire, and create change.

Happy Pride Month 2025!
