New York City, March 7, 2025 – The nomination of Dr. Jay Bhattacharya for Director of the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH) continues the pattern of un- and under-qualified nominees put forward by the current administration. In TAG’s view, Bhattacharya has not been picked because of his experience with research, but rather because of his contrarian positions on COVID-19 and extensive history of opinion pieces in right wing media. He is a political nominee in the strict sense, for a non-political position administering the most important catalyst of scientific discovery in the world.
