Treatment Action Group (TAG) released the first TB chapter of its 2022 Pipeline Report providing an overview of TB vaccine candidates currently in clinical development. Tuberculosis Vaccines by Mike Frick is now available online as a downloadable PDF.
An effective vaccine is key to ending the TB pandemic. This year the pipeline is fuller than it’s ever been, with sixteen candidates undergoing clinical trials. Six of them are now in Phase III trials, which will together enroll over 70,000 study participants around the world in coming years.
In this report, Frick reviews the TB vaccine clinical trials landscape and analyses the state of the field a full century after the release of BCG (bacille Calmette-Guérin), the sole existing vaccine against TB. Additional chapters on TB diagnostics and treatment will be released over the coming weeks.
