Cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) are prevalent among people with HIV (PWH) who are naive to antiretroviral therapy (ART), according to results of a systematic review and meta-analysis published in HIV Medicine.

Infection with HIV may contribute to CMD risk via chronic immune activation and/or persistent inflammation. However, few studies have explored this connection among PWH with no history of ART.

To assess the prevalence of CMD in this population and compare it with that of ART-experienced and HIV-negative cohorts, investigators searched publication databases for relevant studies through June 2024.
