Health Policy Watch: US speeds up signing of bilateral health agreements

As of 2 March, the US has signed 24 bilateral health Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in terms of the Trump administration’s America First Global Health Strategy.

Four are with Latin American countries and 20 – with African countries – mostly previous recipients of health grants via the now disbanded USAID and decimated PEPFAR.

Several of these countries are facing dire shortages of medicines for HIV, TB, and maternal and child health as a result of the US withdrawal of funds.
