CROI 2022: Booster vaccine doses protect people with HIV against severe COVID-19

Additional and booster vaccine doses have been effective in preventing serious COVID-19 in people with HIV and others with immune dysfunction, a large study from the United States reported this week at the 2022 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections.

The study also found that people with immune dysfunction who received an extra dose still had a reduced risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection at least nine months after being fully vaccinated.
