The 10th STEPS HIV Cure community-led workshop will take place on Sunday November 10, 2024, from 10:30 to 12:00 (GMT) in Glasgow (Scotland) at the Scottish Events Campus (Carron Room 2) ahead of HIV Glasgow 2024 conference.

If you are interested in knowing more about HIV cure-related research in Europe from a community perspective, you are invited to join us for the 10th community meeting focused on HIV cure strategies, therapeutic vaccines and innovative approaches for a long-term remission of HIV infection. This workshop is part of the official HIV Glasgow Congress programme, and it is organised by the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG).

About STEPS 10

While stem cell transplants have cured 7 people of HIV, such transplants are dangerous and not easily scaled up. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss the rationale for different approaches to curing HIV. We will hear the perspectives of different people – scientists working at universities, scientists with the pharmaceutical industry and people living with HIV. There will be time for questions and discussion of key issues after presentations.

Agenda

10:30- 10:35 Brian West chair of Partners in Science, EATG

Brian is the chair of STEPS 10. He will introduce today’s workshop.

10:35-10:55 Mark Janse MD – Erasmus University, Netherlands

Memory is a long-time HIV activist. To assess the effectiveness of cure interventions, time off ART (analytic treatment interruption – ATI) is needed. Memory will speak to her concerns about the potential risks and benefits of analytic treatment interruption (ATI), in particular, its potential impact during pregnancy; in women who are undergoing menopause; and its impact on cancer survivors.

11:05-11:20 Jesper D. Gunst MD, PhD – Aarhus University, Danmark

Jesper will speak about approaches to HIV cure being planned or conducted at his academic-medical centre.
