GENEVA/WASHINGTON, D.C., 29 October 2026 – The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund) and the World Bank Group yesterday signed a Letter of Intent that will enable countries to use World Bank financing to buy quality-assured health products through wambo.org, the Global Fund’s online pooled procurement platform.
The agreement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two institutions in December 2025 to mobilize at least US$2 billion in aligned financing over three years and improve access to quality-assured health products. It also marks a further step in expanding access to wambo.org beyond Global Fund grants. The Global Fund first introduced non-Global Fund-financed procurement in 2017, and its Board mainstreamed the mechanism in 2022. In July 2026, the Board approved a new policy to expand its use, helping countries transition toward greater self-reliance while sustaining access to affordable, quality-assured health products.
