On 8 and 9 June 2026, the 1st Conference on Antimicrobial Stewardship in TB convened in Chişinău, Republic of Moldova, bringing together more than 60 experts from across the World Health Organization European Region. The conference adopted a call for action urging governments, international organizations, healthcare institutions, researchers, civil society, and healthcare professionals to embed antimicrobial stewardship as a core pillar of TB care. A related editorial in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe underscored Europe’s failure to deliver on drug-resistant TB, highlighting a stark ‘TB paradox’, where some of the world’s wealthiest and most advanced health systems are failing to implement known, effective tools to tackle the disease.
