Study results suggest syphilis is a risk factor for various cardiovascular complications, emphasizing the need for early clinical detection, treatment, and inclusion of cardiovascular assessments in routine syphilis care.

Investigators conducted a retrospective cohort study using data captured from 3 hospitals in the United States. Control patients were matched 5:1 to patients with syphilis to evaluate for cardiovascular events between January 2011 and July 2025. Follow-up was performed during a median of 2388 (IQR, 1158-3396) days. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression was employed for statistical analysis.
