Clinical Trial Eligibility Criteria for People Living with HIV: Guidance on Improving Inclusion in Non-HIV Trials

Back to the "Publications" list

EATG is proud to present a new milestone from the Belong Project, the Guidance on Improving Inclusion of People Living with HIV in Non-HIV Clinical Trials.

For too long, people living with HIV have been routinely excluded from clinical research for conditions that also affect them from cancer to cardiovascular disease and beyond. This exclusion has limited knowledge, delayed access to new treatments, and reinforced inequities in care.

This guidance offers a practical roadmap for researchers, regulators, sponsors, and community advocates to change that. It brings together scientific principles, ethical considerations, and community insight to ensure that eligibility criteria are based on evidence, not stigma or outdated assumptions.

By following these recommendations, stakeholders involved in clinical research for people living with HIV can make their studies more inclusive, representative, and impactful.

EATG invites all stakeholders in clinical research to use this guidance as a tool for designing fairer, more equitable trials.

Together, we can ensure that people living with HIV are not left behind, but are included where they belong, in research that reflects the world we live in.
