EU4Health Civil Society Alliance: Position paper on the EU Civil Society Strategy

Back to the "HIV and Co-Infections News" list

Civil society organisations (CSOs) are vital to Europe’s democracy, social cohesion, and resilience. Health CSOs in particular play an irreplaceable role in representing patients and professionals, providing independent expertise, and holding decision-makers accountable for health equity and the public good.

EU4Health Civil Society Alliance released a position paper laying out a forward-looking vision that centres civic space, meaningful participation, and resilience. Building on the commitment to civil society-led governance, the position paper underscores three core demands:

  • Clear, predictable, and sustainable funding for civil society across EU policy areas;
  • Real participation in EU decision-making — beyond consultation, and in full respect of Article 11 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union;
  • Safe and enabling environment for civil society, including protection from undue pressure or reputational harm.
