Training Treatment Literacy and Treatment Advocacy, Brussels, 2009

EATG developed two training sessions on Treatment Advocacy and Treatment Literacy specifically for members from Southern Europe and Eastern Europe, taking into consideration region-specific issues, including fewer resources, greater stigma and weaker understanding and support from their national governments.

The objectives of these trainings were to promote the availability and accessibility of HIV treatment and care and/or affordable cost of HIV treatment across Europe, strengthen the capacity and impact of other community organisations across Europe to reach out to people living with HIV and AIDS and impact on policy at national level.

The training covered the following topics:

• History of treatment activism
• Introduction to HIV therapy
• Standard of care
• Barriers to access to treatment
• Human rights
• Inequalities in the health system
• Stigma and discrimination

The trainings took place in Brussels and the working language was English.
