Thematic ECAB on Tuberculosis (March 26-27, 2010, Brussels)
On March 26- 27 2010, the EATG organized a thematic European Community Advisory Board (ECAB) meeting focused on Tuberculosis clinical aspects and clinical research for TB/HIV co-infected populations. The report of the meeting is now available for download in this page.
Report of the meeting:
ECAB is the working group from EATG dealing with clinical research and science projects for HIV/AIDS and its co-infections. ECAB meets several times a year with the pharmaceutical industry where under confidentiality new advances in drug development and access to treatment in the WHO-Euro region are being discussed with patient advocate experts in clinical research and access issues from the whole region.
Since 2007, ECAB has expended its portfolio of activities and has started addressing co-infection issues as well. Several ECAB meetings and thematic workshops have been organized with a specific focus on for instance development of anti-Hepatitis C drugs for HCV/HIV co-infected populations (for further information).
ECAB is now developing further its research and science agenda looking into clinical development and access to TB treatment for HIV & TB co-infected patients, and the second thematic ECAB meeting on TB and HIV co-infection was held on March 26-27 2010 in Brussels, Belgium.
The main objectives and outcomes of the meeting were to serve as training for the European patient Community on TB & HIV co-infection clinical issues and to help building a TB/HIV community advocacy agenda in the WHO-Euro region.
This workshop was attended by around 30 participants: patient advocates from EATG/ECAB, representatives of civil society institutions involved in TB Clinical issues (TAG, TB Alert, TB Action Group...), clinical researchers and international organization representatives active in the TB research field (WHO, StopTB partnership...).
The organizers: Laure Sonnier (EATG), Wim Vandevelde (EATG) and Claire Wingfield (TAG)
