Clinical Trials Training - St Petersburg, 2006
EATG organized two training on clinical trials.
The first training session took place in St Petersburg in Januar 2006. 25 community activists from various different Russian HIV/AIDS NGOs participated. The training provided concentrated on clinical trials activism and advocacy as well as AIDS vaccine advocacy.
The second training session also took place in St Petersburg in June 2006. 20 community activists were selected to participate. The training focused on human rights in clinical trials.
Goals:
- Increased knowledge amongst Russian activists about clinical trials.
- Increased cooperation between and networking amongst Russian non governmental organisations (NGO) and community based organisations (CBO).
- Creation of a Russian Community Advisory Board.
- Increased participation / influence of the community in the design of trials and other initiatives.
The programme covered:
- Nature and types of clinical trials.
- Politics of clinical trials.
- International regulations on conducting clinical research.
- Russian regulations.
- Role and function of regulatory bodies, ethics committees and Data Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMB).
- Models for interaction between community and other stakeholders.
- How to work locally.
