Objectives:

  • Promote the availability and accessibility of HIV treatment and care and/or affordable cost of HIV treatment across Europe
  • Strengthen capacity and impact of other community organisations across Europe to reach out to people living with HIV and AIDS and impact on policy at national level

Participants:

EATG members and local HIV NGO activists from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Moldova.

Criteria for selection:

Essential:

  • Understanding of English and/or Russian
  • Basic understanding of HIV/AIDS
  • Affiliation with an organisation in EECA

Desirable:

  • Willingness to work in team
  • Sensitivity to cultural, social and individual differences
  • Achievements in the HIV field
  • Motivation to network with other organisations
  • Experience in treatment issues

The training covered the following topics:

  • Introduction to HIV therapy
  • Standard of care
  • Barriers to access to treatment
  • Human rights
  • Stigma and discrimination
  • Advocacy tools
  • Fundraising
  • Message development and techniques to address stakeholders

By the end of the session participants are able to:

  • Understand implications of different treatment options
  • Share information and skills in your own country
  • Develop strategies to have leverage at local and national level
  • Perform advocacy activities and knowledge dissemination

The training is interactive and participatory, with discussion groups and training modules taking the form of workshops. The working language of this training will be Russian and English.

The training was followed by a thematic workshop on generic medicines organised by ECAB.
