CoPE (Continuous Patient Education) - 2001-2010
Patient Education is one of the major challenges facing the world at large and specifically Eastern and Central European countries. The EATG has dedicated part of its resources to fund translations of brochure produced in English.
COPE project is a mechanism to fund the translation and adaptation of patient education materials. Several organisations are now translating patient materials into their own languages. This work has been possible through a patient education grant of 12000 Eur received by BMS in the end of 2008 and through a grant of 34,840 Eur for the period from July 2009 to July 2010.

Summary
The COPE project is a mechanism for providing funding to local and national NGOs for the translation and publication of treatment brochures.
This project contributes to EATG’s priorities by:
- Raising awareness of treatment issues
- Increasing the public’s overall treatment knowledge
- Improving the quality of life of PLWHA
COPE Project Objectives are:
- To present an objective, patient-focused and user-friendly overview of relevant health and treatment information about specific subjects
- Produce quality brochures (in terms of content and design)
- Disseminate information to those most in need
- Establish partnerships with local and national NGOs
The COPE priorities for 2009 are:
-
Enhance the reach, quality and visibility of COPE project through the establishment of a pro-active approach and
quality standards - Ensure that reliable patient information is adapted to the local needs
- Ensure best practices are applied in the process
- Reaching out to different national patient groups in Eastern Europe and present an objective, patient-focused and user friendly overview of relevant health and treatment information
Why
The ongoing development of HIV/AIDS treatment, new technologies and approaches improving the quality of life of PLWHA, have resulted in a growing need and demand for treatment information. In order to be able to exercise their rights, PLWHA must first be aware of them. Furthermore, when facing the pharmaceutical industry and the evolving market of HIV/AIDS drugs and medications, patients must have access to up-to-date, objective and comparative information.
What
- Adaptation and translation of publications into Eastern European languages
- Development of an online library
- Patient education good practices
